The Meaning Behind Chil-Pal Jeol

In Unification Church theology, 7.8 Jeol (Chil-Pal Jeol, or “Seven-Eight Day”) is celebrated on July 7th of the lunar/heavenly calendar because the name 7.8 does not refer to the date “July 8th”—it stands for “eight sevens” (7×8).

When True Father proclaimed the holiday on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month in 1997 (August 9, 1997 solar), the number 7 aligned 8 times simultaneously:
Year: 1997
Month: 7th month (lunar)
Day: 7th day (lunar)
Hour: 7 AM
Minute: 7 minutes
Second: 7 seconds
Age: 77 years old (first digit)
Age: 77 years old (second digit)

Numerological Significance
7: Represents completion, perfection, and the Sabbath (rest after creation).
8: Represents a new beginning and total renewal after completing a cycle.

Because the day marked the alignment of eight sevens — symbolizing a new era of spiritual rest and liberation (officially titled the Declaration of the Realm of the Cosmic Sabbath for the Parents of Heaven and Earth ) True Father designated the holiday as Chil-Pal Jeol (7.8 Jeol) to be commemorated annually on lunar 7/7.
